My Pronunciation

Dear all,

Below is a passage reading that i recorded for the professor that i met last week.

Feel free to listen to it.

Comments received by the professor:

発音:「まーす?」、それとも、「ます?」 (Pronounciation: Do you pronounce ma-su or mas?)

おはようございます。長い週末はどうでしたか。楽しかったですか。 (Good morning everybody. How was the long weekend? Was it enjoyable?)

今日、ずっと気になるポイントを教えたいと思います。 (Today, i would like to share a point that it has been bothering me with you all.)

皆さんは学校で初級日本語を勉強していた時、先生は「つ-き (tsu-ki)」を言うか、「つき (ts-ki))」を言うか教えましたか。 (Everyone, when you study/studied Beginner Japanese, did your sensei tell you if you should say [tsu-ki] or [ts-ki] ?

答えは↓です。 The answer is below.

無声子音 (k,s,sh,t,ts,ch,h,f,p) に「い」と「う」が挟まれたり後続したりする時、「い」と「う」は非常に弱く発音されます。

if a 「い」 or a 「う」 is being inserted in between or follows after a voiceless consonant (k,s,sh,t,ts,ch,h,f,p), the 「い」 and the 「う」 will be pronounced in a very weak voice.

例 (Examples):

tsuki, desu

ki, ku, kyu

shi, su, shu

tsu, ti

chi, chu

hi, hyu,

pi, pu, pyu

この歌を聞けば、多分気づくと思います。 (If you listen to this song, i think you will notice. (^_^) )
