After JLPT… What's next?
By Can-sensei ·
今日はお疲れさまでした。So, what's after JLPT? One phrase: "Back to Basics".
Foundation is very important. Some students just want to get their N2 or N1, but they never realise what is important is their foundation grammar. They can pass N3, N4, N5 — then when they take N2, they realise it's a different game altogether.
So what if you pass JLPT N1 or N2? Companies will recognise it on your resume. However, it's a different story if you can't speak — you may fail the interview.
Pointers for those moving on to N1–N3
- Firm up your foundation grammar — get 90% and above for N4 and N5 mock test papers.
- Practise heavily on noun modification (名詞修飾形): know which verb and adjective is modifying which noun.
- Practise heavily on your forms.
- Absorb Japanese media through YouTube.
- Speak with friends or native Japanese speakers.
It doesn't matter whether you make mistakes. Most importantly, build up your confidence to speak. がんばって!
